THE ART & DESIGN DUO OF STUDIO ALMA
Coral and Matt developed as a pair within the creative sphere through two decades of working side by side. Studio Alma is an unfolding studio for ART + DESIGN + FASHION + ECOSYSTEM - A collaborative synergy celebrated through an independent small business in Southeast Ohio.
Born and raised in Ohio and Colorado, respectively, each began their journey of creative expression early on. United during their studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago while earning BFA degrees, the pair went on to explore Southern California, and the Northeast Coast. Following these adventures the pair took root in Southeast Ohio.
Matt earned an MFA in ceramics from California State University, Long Beach. He has taught large-scale ceramics and contemporary practice at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Colorado, Boulder and Ohio University. Additionally, his work has been exhibited widely, most recently in the solo exhibitions Matt Wedel: Phenomenal Debris at the Toledo Museum of Art (2023) and Matt Wedel: On the Verge at the Louisiana State University Museum of Art (2019). His work is held in collections and museums internationally including the Clay Museum of Ceramic Art, Middelfart, Denmark, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax, Canada, the Honolulu Museum of Art in Hawaii, and the Long Beach Museum of Art in California.
